soneurotypical asked: what does it mean, practically or plainly speaking, to transcend the hand one has been dealt ?
fuck your identity—the only struggle is to transcend the strength of the hand dealt you

I said strength for a reason. I think it’s much more difficult to be good in the face of being strong or powerful than it is to be good in the face of misfortune or deficiency. Talent is not there simply to be exploited, because you are never the master of your own talents. They almost always dominate you. They do this by shaping your personality via the praise and encouragement that they elicit. Through them it is immensely easier to be what pleases other people than it is to be your own self.
This is why attractive people are frequently insipid and also the reason that child prodigies are always insufferable.
Plainly speaking, it means finding a target that no one else can see (and therefore a target that no one will congratulate you for hitting) and hitting it. Like the other one said,
(art is the material excrement of self-transcendence)
